The much anticipated #IStandWithNigeria anti-government protest march will not hold as scheduled afterall.
This was authoritatively confirmed by face of the protest himself, popular music artist Innocent ‘2Baba’ Idibia, after he took to his Instagram page to make the announcement.
The protest was initially planned for Monday, the 6th of February, 2016.
The Enough is Enough group had packaged the protest that which 2Baba endorsed and consequently became the face and voice of. Several other celebrities had also endorsed the march including Yemi Alade, Wizkid amongst others.
The protest was billed to address to voice out the perceived inefficiency of the President Muhammadu Buhari led government towards bringing about the socio-economic “change” that his administration promised.
Citing security concerns 2Baba bowed to pressure as he pulled the plug on the planned mass protest.
On the Instgram video he said:
Dear Nigerians!!! Due to security concerns and public safety considerations. I hereby announce the cancellation of the planned March… After due consultation, we have realised that the protest is likely to be hijacked by those whose purpose do not align with ours.
That is perhaps echoing the voice off the Nigeria Police who had “stongly advised” him againt going ahead with the protest.
On Friday The Police had called on him and others planning the anti-government protest to immediately shelve the plan, reports the Premium Times.
In a statement issued late Friday from the Force Headquarters in Abuja and signed by police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, the police said there was credible intelligence that the demonstration could turn violent.
Innocent Idibia (a.k.a Tuface) and his group are hereby strongly advised to shelve their planned peaceful protest/demonstration in the interest of peace and security.
